When I originally heard there was going to be movie based on the classic game “Battleship”, there was the obvious “WTF!” moment. No further digging was needed because I just couldn’t wrap my head around the idea. While browsing around YouTube today, i was bombarded continously with the same ad, the trailer for Battleship. All I can think of after watching it is “WTF! Where were the aliens in the board game? Because, I never saw them”.

Originality hasn’t been one of the strongest attributes for Hollywood as of late. Remakes, reboots, comic books, bestsellers, the list goes on and on. The attempt of originality in this movie is lost on me, it makes no sense and brings nothing more than the impression of a Transformers movie at sea.

Not to mention, Hollywood has had little good luck in movies based on video games, something with that originality thing again. Maybe the thinking is a movie named after a classic game, but having little to nothing to do with that original game will make more sense.

You sunk my expectations … If this massive pile of crap makes back anything close to its $250 million budget, it’ll be a miracle.

Posted in Rants

Let me get this straight. The insane hype and other nonsense surrounding the release of the iPhone 4S led two ladies to sit outside the New York flagship Apple Store for 17 days, all to be the first in line to spend a few hundred bucks on the latest gadget and they turn down $1500 for their place in line? Really? Seriously? Not that I plan on ever wasting the days away in line for the shiniest of new Android phones, but, if I did, I’d gladly take that $1500 and run home and put my order in … ONLINE! And, I’d still come out ahead by $1000 or so. I’m happy to get my Android phone without all the BS that goes along with these kind of release days.

As you can see, I really don’t get the hype of it, or the point in rushing to be the first to get the damn thing, when, within the next year, the iPhone5 will likely be released, and, well, most of the the people waiting in line for 4S, will probably do it all over again …

Disposable income is one thing, but if your just gonna throw good money after bad, how about you throw it all my way instead, at least I can put it to better use.

Posted in Rants

Time for a rant. It’s been a while and this one has been brewing for the last week, at least. If you go to a bowling alley and your not a regular league bowler, learn something! If you are a regular league bowler and you still don’t have a clue, you need some serious help …

In nearly every league I’ve ever participated in, over the last 20+ years, when it’s your turn to bowl you give way to other bowlers in the league within two lanes on either side of yours, if they are already on the approach (some leagues only observe one lane to either side, that’s fine too, as long as it’s known ahead of time). Its a simple practice, really. It throws people off so badly when you go into your approach/follow through and all of a sudden somebody appears in your peripheral vision.

If you just go to a bowling alley once in a while to “open” bowl, and there’s a league going on, stay the hell away from our lanes! This part of the rant is partially the fault of the bowling alley, itself. Setting people up to bowl directly next to league bowlers is horribly distracting to us. Thankfully, they didn’t start bowling until we finished up tonight, but when you have so many bodies crowding around you, including sitting on the step right before the approach, I have this nagging and nearly overwhelming need to drop my ball on the back swing, on purpose, in the hopes that I break someones toes!

For the money we league bowlers pay on a weekly basis, we should be afforded some simple forms of expected bowlers etiquette, from the house, as well as from other league bowlers. It’s not asking a lot, and 9 out of 10 times, we get exactly what is expected. It’s that 1 out of 10, that drives me bat shit crazy.

I feel better now, a little. Back to your regularly scheduled BS …
