Having a thing for weird stats and stuff, this was right up my alley, a few highlights:

• $10 billion: to be gambled on Super Bowl XLVI internationally, expected to be the most bet-upon game in Super Bowl history, according to ESPN
• 1.25 billion: chicken wings eaten Super Bowl weekend
• 111 million: last year’s average U.S. TV audience, the largest in U.S. TV history. It could hit 113 million viewers this year, according to an unscientific poll by MediaLife
• $3.5 million: for a 30-second ad, on average, up from $3 million last year
• 47%: of Super Bowl viewers will check their smartphones up to 10 times or more during the game, according to a survey by Velti.

When I originally heard there was going to be movie based on the classic game “Battleship”, there was the obvious “WTF!” moment. No further digging was needed because I just couldn’t wrap my head around the idea. While browsing around YouTube today, i was bombarded continously with the same ad, the trailer for Battleship. All I can think of after watching it is “WTF! Where were the aliens in the board game? Because, I never saw them”.

Originality hasn’t been one of the strongest attributes for Hollywood as of late. Remakes, reboots, comic books, bestsellers, the list goes on and on. The attempt of originality in this movie is lost on me, it makes no sense and brings nothing more than the impression of a Transformers movie at sea.

Not to mention, Hollywood has had little good luck in movies based on video games, something with that originality thing again. Maybe the thinking is a movie named after a classic game, but having little to nothing to do with that original game will make more sense.

You sunk my expectations … If this massive pile of crap makes back anything close to its $250 million budget, it’ll be a miracle.

Harry Morgan passed away today at the age of 96. My generation remembers him best as Colonel Sherman Potter on M*A*S*H. Older generations remember him for Dragnet 1967 when he played Officer Bill Gannon. I’ll also remember him for his role in Support Your Local Sheriff! as Mayor Olly Perkins.

A small collection of quotes from Col. Potter:

“You have to give Winchester credit. He is bright, educated, and an A-1 surgeon, and with all that he still found a room to be a total jerk.”

“It’s 3 ‘blessed’ a.m.! Even roosters are comatose!”

“It always amazes me how a baby can take a normal adult and turn him into a babbling idiot.”

“You’ll have to excuse these two, they are themselves today.”

Hawkeye: “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Colonel Potter: “Because when you become a colonel, they take the bone out of your head that makes you explain orders.”
